GUID

The Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) is a string that renders database items unique across different databases and anywhere in the world. The string is automatically assigned to the following database items:

  • Models

  • Object definitions

  • Filters

  • Templates

  • Font formats

  • Database users

  • User-defined method items

The items stated above are assigned a GUID when being created. If variants of these items are created, they receive a reference to the GUID of their masters, which is the so-called variant relationship. Thus, master and variant know each other.

The unique ID ensures that the relationship between master and variant is recreated when they are merged after having been edited in different databases.

The GUID for models and model items is located on the Information properties page. The GUID for filters, templates, and font formats is located in the Edit dialogs.
